MARSHALL — The Marshall Public School district is working to get the word out about the operating referendum in November.
On Friday, district administrators announced the launch of an informational website for the public.
The new website, TomorrowsTigers.org, includes background information on the Nov. 8 referendum, as well as tools for voters like a tax calculator.
“We recognize that this is an important community decision for our schools,” said MPS Superintendent Jeremy Williams. “Our hope is that this website serves as a helpful resource for anyone looking to learn more about the plan to meet the needs of our schools.”
MPS is asking voters to weigh in on a proposed operating levy of $675 per pupil. The operating referendum will be important for the school district to have stable finances into the future, an MPS news release said Friday.
MPS said the operating levy would address financial challenges caused by insufficient state funding for education, and the end of COVID relief aid funding. If the levy does not pass, the school district will face a nearly $2 million deficit going into the 2023-24 school year, MPS said.
The Tomorrow’s Tigers website includes information on the referendum and frequently asked questions, as well as tax tools to for voters to learn how the operating levy would impact them. There are also instructions on how to vote early, or where to go to vote on Election Day.
“We’re committed to providing residents with the information they need to make an informed vote and we look forward to engaging our community further about this big step for our schools,” Williams said. The website will continue to be updated with further information, he said.
